Author Topic: i can't pronounce "th" ?  (Read 1759 times)

while hanging out with my friends during lunch period, we were talking about something and i said "other", but it came out as "oder"
and when i say "the" it sounds like "da"
and they made fun of me for it :(
i think it's because i speak Polish at home and i'm getting my stuff mixed up?
how can i correct myself, or first of all even say "th" properly?
this doesn't apply to like, -th at the end where if makes a "f" sound, only when it's supposed to make the actual "th" sound
aka "mouth"

or first of all even say "th" properly?
gently bite your tongue and exhale through your mouth

mouth is not pronounced "mouf"
it is if you're british

Your tongue should be pressing on the back/between of your teeth when you make a 'th' sound.

it is if you're british
Depends on the accent.
It's generally just lazy pronounciation when you don't use 'th'.
Same as saying "water" without pronouncing the T.

literally no difference to me
there is a huge difference between words like "think" and "fink"
they sound completely different at the beginning

it is if you're british
i say mouth with a -th sound at the end, not a -f sound

For the word "ask", do you say "axe"?
