i think spanish is something that gets taught in american schools whereas european schools usually get taught german or french. might just be mine, idk, i had no choice and was forced at gunpoint to take French at GCSE, however I could ditch that stuff at A-level

It depends on the country. But it usually is english.
We get french because our country is stupid and has 2 languages, dutch and french. Poland gets russian as a language instead of, for example french.

Its different from country to country. But usually only english iirc
