oh
what's the christian view
Well, Catholics are christians.
It depends on your denomination.
Anglicans typically don't care, hence contraception is acceptable.
context please:
God was like "this girls hubby died impregnate her so your generations can contine"
*cums in grass*
"alright forget you dude"
I think her hubby was the dudes brother or something
it was a culture thing at the time and a "do what god tells you please" thing
The story is that Onan's brother Er was slain by God.
Onan's father, Judah, told him to impregnate his brother's widow. This is part of a levirate marriage, where a brother-in-law should marry a brothers widow.
Onan pulled out during intercourse and spilled his seed upon the ground. God slew him because of this.
The Catholic church uses this as a reason for Contraception being banned.
Other sects have taken it to represent any waste of seed, including procrastination, or love without the purpose of procreation.
I believe Anglicans, and some other protestant sects, consider it to just be a case that Onan did not respect his father's command, nor the tradition of a levirate marriage, which was their culture.
