Author Topic: i got my temps yesterday  (Read 892 times)

i got my temporary license yesterday. my mom let me try out her truck, and i barely put my foot down on the gas and the tires squealed and i rocketed off. i got too scared so i told my mom i can't do it. yay.

back in the day my dad told me two things about people learning to drive

>they never turn the loving wheel, they just barely move it and wonder why the car wont turn
>they push the gas down way too hard

my dad says I turn too much lol

well if its any consolation hill i too was taken by surprise at how delicate you have to be
but i was in a truck on a dirt road so i had room to breathe

take your car out to some dirt roads, and just get a feel for it before you try and do anything if you're scared of it

The hill I live on requires you to turn the wheel halfway around just to turn lol. To get up the hill your best bet is to floor it (unless you have a lot of engine and a small car). Because of this I now have a lead foot and make turns very fluidly due to the fact if I were to mess up there'd be a nice little tumble

I had a lot of experience with racing stock cars before I got my license(legal age is 12) so I had more than enough experience driving. I just needed to learn all rules of the road.
Maybe ask one of your parents to bring you to an empty/abandoned parking lot so you can get the hang of it before you start driving on actual roads. That's how I taught my sister.

take a driving class before you get your actual license it really helps and it can really cut your insurance payment down

I don't think anyone really needs to take a driving class unless they don't have a reliable guardian to teach them. It's definitely beneficial if you're tight on money and want to cut insurance costs though.

is it not required in your state? I can't get my license at all without a class

It's not required here either. It's also not offered by schools

A driving class isn't required, but you do need to take a 5 hour pre-licensing course before you take your road test.

I memorized drivers ed when I was 8 years old. Driving for the first time on a road (I was 16) was pretty freaky, but I got used to it even though my first vehicle was a 12 passenger Ford van that's the size of a shuttle bus (had to parallel park it in my driving test as well).

We don't even have that, it's just the three stages of license. Permit, intermediate, then unrestricted
