halo until halo 4
Bullstuff, O'Donnell did some good stuff but he's still an amateur with extremely repetitive works that often rip on classical composers to an obnoxious degree (there's so many bolero references in the H3 soundtrack it's irritating). Don't get me wrong, I like his stuff, but the people who don't like the halo 4-5 soundtracks just because it isn't O'Donnell are essentially saying they have stuff taste only controlled by fanboyism.
117 from H4, and Light is Green/Blue Team/The Trials from H5 are all significantly more well composed pieces than anything from O'Donnel's soundtracks. I do prefer the arrangements O'Donnell chooses so props to him for that, but that's about the only thing he was genuinely good at.
More on topic:
While this isn't ingame --
i like the legend of zelda 25th anniversary orchestra better.
-- I consider its finisher (the
Ballad of the Goddess) to be one of the greatest pieces of all time.
Almost all other zelda music is similarly fantastic.
