Author Topic: What do you use to host a server?  (Read 1362 times)

I'm am wondering what you guys use in dedicated server hosting. Do you own the hardware yourself, or do you rent out a server somewhere?

For me, I actually use a laptop.

The image is not entire accurate as when I host it is connected to the Internet with Ethernet and has a USB powered fan cooler underneath.

Even though its processesing speed is low, it still manages to be a decent hosting machine. I only host one server at a time, and this laptop can easily handle that. The main benefit is that it's free, as I don't have to pay a monthly fee to run it.

What about you, how do you host your servers?

own computer
only real limitation is my internet upload speed being only 6 megabits a second at best and no one joins it anyway

I use my own computer, lenevo thinkpad t61. Ping is blank sometimes because of comcast.

Host mine with a .bat file

Anyways, I use my own computer that my brother made himself once he bought the parts.

Depending on what im hosting either my home server or a service--the services I've used are RTB, HammerHost, and NFO (once).

Do you use your main pc or is it a side thing you have?

a side pc hard wired into the router

When I used to run 24/7 servers I used CBM Host, which is no longer around. If you're looking for a dedicated server that can run 50+ people with minimal lag and a strong reliable connection, I'd recommend renting a server from NFO Servers.

I've got plenty of hardware, but my residential internet situation is basically 3rd world internet.
I host with an NFO servers unmanaged VPS.

i host off a D630, and a slot from various people's servers

Personal server in a datacenter

I actually use to host it with my own PC, then I switched to Blocknet
