neither of them have contributed anything to the game/forums, and lord tony has been around nearly as long as me. not that i've contributed anything either.

Lord Tony is actually very productive in game. He always had some sort of build or project going on at his server.

Neither have done anything for the community, and both have a history of bans, dramas and alts.
There would be nothing lost if neither of them were on the forums anymore.

Building doesn't add anything to the community any more than simply hosting a server does. He's literally just playing the game. That is neither good nor bad for the community.

Even if building were some magical gift to the people, it's forget all compared to the stuff he's flung over the years.
This is a guy so toxic that he was given an ultimatum, stop posting about ponies or be banned, and then decided he'd rather be banned.

Christ, by the views of half the people here we should just forgive all the turds from over the years provided they can make a cool build.

Building doesn't add anything to the community any more than simply hosting a server does.
what adds to the community if not builds and servers

what adds to the community if not builds and servers
Maybe
  • More well made vehicles & items
  • Torque Engine modifications
  • Great servers with great content
Stuff like that, maybe more. That's all I could remember off the top of my head.

His profile is empty and avatar blank, probably "quitting".

Are the we really that lucky?

Being pleasant, helping others in game and on the forums, making appreciated add-ons (to an extent), interacting with the community without causing large amounts of hostile arguments, etc...

It's like an actual town community. You actually have to be interacting with the community properly to add/be a good part to it.
Imagine if there is a baker in town, and he makes bread for the town and it's quite nice (but he's not the only baker, or even the best). Now imagine that he is rude to everyone that comes into the bakery, and after work he goes to the pub and spurts obscene remarks about groups of people and starts brawls. And he does it so much that the mayor even threatens him with eviction unless he stops, but he carries on anyway.
The baker isn't a boon to the community just because he makes bread, which we can get elsewhere.

Whether or not Tony is a jerk, his builds are contributing to the community just as much as releasing addons is. It helps people have a good time in-game when they get to explore a build. When he hosts public servers for his builds, and the builds are posted for people to see online, he is interacting with the community, and in a positive way. He shares pictures of them in gallery for everyone to see, and you can go to his server, save the builds and play with them yourself later if you so wish.

NOEDIT: And SirDooble, based on what you said about Tony's builds, are you really going to say that about the builds I make and share here are supposedly not contributing to the community? If so, screw you man. I work hard on those and people like what I share. I build those mainly for my own enjoyment, but I couldn't do it without knowing I had others I could share the things I build with. Granted, I do have addons posted there too, but the focus of my thread is on the builds, which you apparently seem to think don't matter. IMO the builds are much more important than the addons, because the builds are the main thing Blockland was designed for.

Lord Tony contributes a lot to the community through his builds. That's a fact. Your baker brown townogy is just as ridiculous as your assertion that builds don't count.

All-in-all the whole "contributing to the community" spiel is bullstuff regardless of what you may think. You could have the nicest guy who never makes add-ons and the hugest cunt who puts out quality stuff every week and that doesn't change who either of these two hypothetical people are.

Indeed. The question is whether they are contributing to the community, and I'd say that their bad behavior can't cancel out the content they post at all. They can still be a despicable and unlikable person and contribute to the community at the same time.
