Author Topic: Walmart killed Thanksgiving and they are trying to pretend they didn't.  (Read 5234 times)

Holiday pay is only your time + half your time. So if you work 8 hours at walmart you get 4 hours worth of holiday pay.
So? More pay then I'd get normally.

So? More pay then I'd get normally.

Oh and more pay for corporate too! While they sit on their ass with their families collecting off your hard work making BILLIONS. Without you, there is no Walmart. You shouldn't have to just say "more pay then I'd get normally."

Walmart screwed me out of benefits. I am part time yes but if I had 3 consecutive weeks of 40 hours I get benefits. I had 2 weeks of 40 hours and 1 week of 39 hours. They screwed me by 1 hour.

Damn that's terrible. I never understood the appeal of black friday anyway. Like yeah that 25% off deal is cool, but it sure as hell isn't worth it enough to wake up early in the morning, find myself in a huge crowd of people, and fight over other buyers just to buy some product.

You may be thinking these people worked hard and deserve these billions. Sam Walton  is the only one who worked for all that. Every CEO was basically just given the job because they know connections. Most of them barely did anything hard to get where they were.

They could give all their workers 20+ dollars an hour and still make billions.

Part timers can get healthcare now

Oh yeah that 25% off discount! For being forced to work thanksgiving you get a 25% off discount! However most of the Black Friday stuff that was on sale is already gone so you can only use this discount on the leftovers. Also you're taking your paycheck and putting your money back into walmart.

Only if they work 40 hours a week for at least 3 or more weeks in a row. It bumps them up to full time status without being full time.

Isn't that how it works, though?

Its easier than going somewhere else

I'm pretty sure you need to work like over 30 hours or something now. I don't remember but they changed eligibility

Corporations like Walmart disgust me.

Black Friday-esque consumerism disgusts me.

People need to get with the times and realize cyber Monday is a thing

Also let me put this in perspective for you.

Say every thursday you set your availability to not work on thursday because thursday is the day you feed the homeless. Black friday overrides any set availability you have forcing you to work on thursday. Now you can't feed the homeless a home cooked turkey dinner on thanksgiving.

I think everyone should have at least one or two days guaranteed to be with their family. People work so they can pay to feed and support themselves and their families, not be wage slaves to appease some person who'd rather shop on a holiday than be at home.

Black Friday is a disgusting practice anyway. Marking the prices up then dropping them back down to fool people into thinking they are the getting a good deal when really they are voluntarily gathering like cattle to go buy something they will probably throw out next year.

It feels like we skipped Thanksgiving altogether.
I've noticed a few years ago myself. My guess two things have happened if not both: 1) Political Correctness for fear of offending Native American, 2) More profit can be made of Christmas.

And 3, to a minor degree, we've grown less thankful, perhaps?
