Under the title "Duty to God", the first of the above-mentioned principles of the Scout Movement is defined as "adherence to spiritual principles, loyalty to the religion that expresses them and acceptance of the duties resulting therefrom". It should be noted that, by contrast to the title, the body of the text does not use the word "God", in order to make it clear that the clause also covers religions which are non-monotheistic, such as Hinduism, or those which do not recognize a personal God, such as Buddhism.
Dictionary.com defines religion as follows:
Quote
a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
and agnostic as:
Quote
a person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as God, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience.

Thus it can be argued that holding beliefs commonly deemed as religious, such as christianity etc., is not required. Religion is an umbrella term for a set of beliefs in how the world was created and works and thus agnosticism is allowed as a belief. If you dig enough, you could even find enough arguments for atheism.

you could even find enough arguments for atheism.
See your own definition:
creation of a superhuman agency or agencies
devotional and ritual observances
Atheism isn't a religion. It doesn't have these criteria. And "set of beliefs" should be interpreted as "set of spiritual beliefs" because there's a forgetton of things that include a "set of beliefs" that are in no way related to religion

Agnosticism isn't included or excluded, it's irrelevant to the question at hand. All it means is "the existence/non existence of God can't be proven". You can believe God exists, and thus be religious, yet recognize your belief can't be proven, and thus agnostic.

Atheism wasn't the point I was making in my post. You'd have to make a case for it, but I'd think it would be feasible to do so.

It was a hypothetical.

You'd have to make a case for it, but I'd think it would be feasible to do so.
The only people who want to label Atheism as a religion is people arguing against them, who are trying to shift the burden of proof to Atheism by labeling it as a belief system. There's little other reason to spend so much time or care so much

As far as doing it to advance, one of the core values is doing your duty to God. If your don't have a God, there is no way to perform that duty. BSA is reworking a lot of requirements, explicitly adding"tell me how you do your duty to God" as a required question to advance any rank. If you have no God to do a duty to, you can't answer this question, and is you can't answer the question, you can't advance

Hate to break it to you but in the real world nobody cares if you are an eagle scout
Do employers not value something like this at all over there?

it doesn't matter if you aren't into religion
i mean they did prayers a lot before meals and stuff but if you cant tolerate that then you will have issues with the real world

gotta turn in paperwork and plan your eagle court of honor
good job man, i got my eagle (officially) at the end of august, finished my board of review in june
it's tough but worth it

also lol this debate, atheists are recognized as scouts, you don't have to declare a religion in scouts (i didn't), scouts doesn't care afaik

edit:
i hadn't heard about this new requirement, my bad

Do employers not value something like this at all over there?
They do. My buddy got a full ride scholarship to ASU's honor college and he wouldn't of gotten it without the Eagle Scout title

the national eagle scout association also offers its own scholarship

Yes, it does. They're changing and tightening up a lot of requirements

Q. What if, during a Scoutmaster conference or board of review, a Scout says that he does not believe in God?

A. A Scout’s declaration that he does not believe in God is grounds to deny rank advancement and could affect his continued membership in the troop.

Of course you could lie but some people don't feel comfortable doing that. And not having any recommendation from religious leaders can make things harder

You always get that one person who has to emphasize on the involvement of religion in the scouts. Congrats OP on the rank up!

just lie and say you're christian what does it matter lol

Yes, it does. They're redoing a lot of things and tightening then up.

yeaaaaaaaaaah
i could tolerate at least handling a religion regardless of fully believing it
"The new requirements do ask Scouts to reflect on their own belief. They don’t ask the Scout leader to have a two-way conversation about religion, to proselytize or to evaluate whether the Scout’s duty to God meets the Scout leader’s personal standard."

“Tell how you have done your duty to God.” Not demonstrate, discuss, show or prove."
just lie and say you're christian what does it matter lol

And ofc it'd be a furry like headcrab
You know the scouts have every loving right to say you have to be involved in a religion. Just like you have the right to not practice one
