Author Topic: Tutorial/medieval build. Need suggestions/builders.  (Read 3079 times)

So you know how the tutorial really does not teach you that much and to be entirely honest is a little bland? I am fixing that with a build I am making. I am taking the tutorial map, then turning it into a nice looking castle and building a medieval style town around it. On top of that I am adding rooms for more tips and tricks on the game (this is where i need the most suggestions, for rooms to add. So far it will add drive, dive, shoot, wand, eventing, rocket jump, talk/commands, admin commands, flying and jump puzzle tips. Any other ideas you have?) I can always add more rooms and build new buildings if it does not fit in the current tutorial. I plan on sharing the save file when it is finished so I want to be top quality. It is also backwards compatible, so it can all loaded right on top of the existing tutorial map.

Currently I am mostly done with the castle and the rooms currently, but I could use some extra hands to build the terrain and town outside the castle as I plan on making it pretty good size and using terrain bricks for the landscape. If you consider yourself a good builder and would like to lend a hand, just join my server as you see it or contact me on steam (should be easy to find me I have the same username of Crazy ManMan

I plan on checking this thread again but I might forget so sorry in advance for any delays in response.

Edit 1: The sceenshots shown are not of the finished product, so they is subject to change.

Update: Though this map is not finished part of it can be downloaded here to check out. There is currently more to the map than in the download but I will update it when the map is finished or when I feel appropriate to do so.

this actually sounds like a really cool idea

tutorial castle, it should be called

tbh it seems like a bad idea. a new player who needs to learn such basic info probably isnt gonna prowl gamemodes and install an improved tutorial

That is not really the point. The point is to make the tutorial a nicer looking more functional building. Plus with the numbers of tricks and tricks some of the things will be thing somebody who just recently started downloading maps might learn a few small things at least.

honestly what's wrong with rebuilding the tutorial to look nice. as a build by itself its a cool idea; theres no need to really consider making it as functional as the default tutorial.

That is not what I said and you miss the point of the entire idea. Besides what do you even care what I am doing. It does not involve you, if you do not like the idea move along.

That's not the purpose of this though.

i didn't miss the point--i'm just saying it's a bad point.

the only people who will be downloading and playing gamemodes (especially old ones) are those who don't need the basic information. sure you can make the build look better, but if you plan to release a save file with increase functionality you are obviously expecting people to play it. and who will that be? the skilled players don't want to spend time to play another tutorial even if it might contain some tip they don't know, and the new players arent capable of doing so

I am having fun and I am not hurting anybody. I do not need justification further than that. What do you care? Besides, being a fancier tutorial is just the primary function. It will be useful for more than just that. I am building a whole town around it after all.

pix plz? c:
Also, heres an idea;
some player can host this dedicated, and any new players can join it. It can be under the name of like "Tutorial vs" or something like that.

It is currently under construction so I do not plan on releasing pictures until it is finished but I have been complimented on it a few times so far (though I suppose it is possible they were just being nice). The server is currently up if you would like to check it out for yourself.

I decided to take some screenshots after all. Just note this is not the finished product, so anything you say may be subject to change.
