Author Topic: How does Funky Shirt still exist?  (Read 2854 times)

Has anyone actually tested and proved a statistically significant increase in latency as a direct result of using this add-on? Or is it just "I want a valid reason to hate this"
i remember playing rising lava which allows you to check everyone's ping, a lot of people would use this avatar changer and they had a little higher ping than regular players.

So then according to your own measurement method, it doesn't lag the server. Because if the server was lagging, everyone would have higher pings.

That's also not a well designed experiment, it leaves to much room for other variables

It rotates every second because that's all the update avatar serverCmd allows

It looks bad and tacky, yeah, but If you need an add-on to kick people for it you're probably the type of person who gets annoyed at everything.

Because I don't imagine that an avatar update once a second (or even more) is even remotely comparable in resource usage to what's needed to run the rest of the game.
I don't ban people for it, but I certainly do target them in DMs. :cookieMonster:

Fair enough, because that's like going into battle with a bullseye on your chest.

It does not lag servers unless your server is a $10 grandma email checker.
how did you know what i host my 24/7 vehicle holiday server on

im saying that using it in competitive games gives you a disadvantage because you have a higher latency. of course thats nobody elses problem.

truthfully though i really hate funky shirt

Yeah, I honestly thought it woulda died out by now. But still see it occasionally.

funky shirt used to lag when a player would send an avatar change request 30 times per second and then every client would have to update the player's avatar, limiting the rate at which you can push an avatar change has since removed this lag

I made a better one in about July. I gave it away to some people.

I honestly don't have too much of a problem with it

If it even is the cause of the higher latency.
It's very implausible that a single request per second can cause any noticeable affect on latency, when you're already making tons of requests every second to  continuously update your (and receive other players) positions, aim direction, every possible action you perform, etc

In which case your server is going to be lagging no matter what you do

all im saying is i noticed that the couple of people with funky shirts i've played with on RL all had a higher latency than the other average players I ping checked. it could just be a mere coincidence

I'd say that I found a decent avatar that looks good with funky shirt type mods...

I remember back in 2011 everyone on Cat123's knife tdm used the funky shirt to death
