yeah, as opposed to the current game which is crossbows and then smg/ shotgun/ c4 punch once you get into close range, depending on whatever has more ammo. the current weapon layout doesn't have many options either
the semi auto rifle is designed to be multipurpose and work as a midrange sniping weapon and a competant close-quarters weapon so it unifies ammunition, makes fighting consistent and makes actual trench-to-trench fighting a fun scramble to either keep enemies back so you can pick them off safely or rush in to start putting out conc blast headshots to kill efficiently, and the knife and grenade supplement that playstyle by giving very close ranged players options to sneak attack without wasting ammo and flush out enemies in cover respectively
the semi auto rifle also does knockback so that sniper towers have to be better developed and skybridges need railings and can really only attack from one angle without making yourself a wide open target to be knocked off a ledge and killed via fall damage, so actual traditional 'sniping' is restricted to actual purpose-built sniper locations as opposed to just 'wherever there's a ledge that you can duck behind because bolts fly so slowly dodging them at range is completely trivial but hitting unaware players is piss-easy'
