it's not two strokes, but just one. down, right, up, down
even when I write a 4 the other way, it's still just one stroke, starting at the bottom

Used to do the top 4s. But then people kept somehow mistaking perfect 4s for nines. Somewhere along the line I swapped.

Don't understand why nobody writes it like that when like- every font in existence does it that way.

what i don't like is when people do a 5 by starting down and finishing by going from left-to-right for the top part and it ends up looking like an awkward S

Whenever I want to write quickly and it's in a situation where whoever's reading it won't be confused (like on an algebra test or something), just a line. Otherwise I do a 1 because it's more distinct.
