I never understood why the observer message was annoying besides when people started spectating me as I was the second to last player and my heart started beating faster.

when admins spy on you, they get the # observers, knowing that they are being watched.
this is particularly detrimental when you're trying to catch someone doing a bad thing only for them to stop when they know they are being watched over

Also some weapon packs have ammo counters that appear on the bottom print and that can conflict a bit, not to mention various other things people use the bottom print for.
