Author Topic: How do you find your area code?  (Read 742 times)

Was wondering where people get those three numbers from and I was wondering if it's just to do with your home phone number or is it the first three digits of your zip code, or is it something else?

if you have an iphone, you should be able to find your entire phone number at the top of your contacts list. I'm not sure about android
other than that, you can call your cell service provider and ask them

typing in "[your country] area code" in google also works.

I think he's trying to ask where area codes come from.

if that's the case, you can see all of them here:

if you wanna know HOW they're decided, it's probably arbitrary, but if you really care it might be somewhere in here:

The area code has nothing to do with a ZIP code. The area code is the first three digits after the country code.

Although they can become somewhat useless now since you are able to keep your phone number when you move, so someone in California can have an area code originating in New York.

ask whoever provides you phone service

Get a friend's phone and dial all possible area codes until your own phone rings. Easy!

Yes

Your standard 10 digit phone number consists of this: (xxx) xxx-xxxx

The first 3 digits (in the parenthesis) is your area code. As the name suggests, this is given to you based on your area.
For example, the 530 area code is used in a large chunk of Northern California.
As far as I know, the area codes are random.

Here is a map of all the area codes:

it's a measure of how many people died to set up that phone line

all im sayin is some stuff went DOWN in nova scotia
