I am a visual person and usually I respect people with clean/well-made avatars over people with squished jpeg avatars.

It's basically like one of those crush thing you children have at school where you punch the person you really like.

Abusing your loved ones? Sounds like an aussie thing.

I don't think it sways my opinion much unless I really hate looking at that specific image.

Avatars from the get-go don't affect me, but I remember specifically for TwenteFreak (specifically Twenky and Twerky accounts), Aware, and Alternative, they had/have characters or something acting dismissive or aggressive and it only made me more pissed at them when they'd act dismissive or aggressive. I don't really have issues with them now though because the two former users aren't around much anymore and Alternative has drastically improved.

I mainly only use avatars as a quick form of identification
I don't even pay much attention to usernames
Like if someone changes their avatar it could take me a week to realize that it's the same person

usually the gender of the avatar makes me assume things. Beyond that i don't really think much of it.
