Author Topic: i'm making a site for a thing and need feedback along the process  (Read 2475 times)

so i'm making a site for a project, and i'm gonna need feedback on it both now and in the near future when i expand it

www.cadoth.net/~tudor

this is what i have so far (image for archival purposes)

you can ignore the text itself because it's not in english, but i'd love some feedback and tips on the actual site, as well as tests in different enviroments (not mobile its not gonna work)

also the light mode button doesn't do anything yet

It actually doesnt look that bad
The dark blue contrasting with the slightly brighter blue the text is on is one of my favourite bits
Keep up the good work!

i did a few edits to the main text div because i thought it looked a bit out of place; tell me what you think

edit: with a bit of help, overhauled structure. site is now mobile friendly!

feel free to post mobile screenshots so i can see how the site behaves

this is personal preference but I would lower the indentation by half so that it's just 20px
I also think there should be some empty space after the bottom of the main container. as it is, the white line at the bottom touches the bottom of the screen

lastly, that the way it shows up on mobile is sub-par. there's way too much empty space around everything, and the body text could be a little smaller
the large indentation is particularly bothersome on mobile too
here it is on an iphone 5:

I know I need to charge my phone

I think it looks great, otherwise

the page is also showing up in times new roman for some reason? i'll look into it

I can't get to the page to actually check (idk if that's intentional or what), but it's almost definitely because whatever font you're trying to use isn't available on iOS (it's probably a Windows font), and Safari just defaulted to that

Yea, I'm on Chrome mobile and it redirects me to a download index

the page is currently down for unknown reasons
i'll ask the guy running the site about it when he gets on

i'm actually just using Roboto. do you have the same issues with the font on other devices? i could look into that as well

i also added a margin at the bottom of the main text div, which you can't actually see until the site is fixed

edit: after taking a look at https://www.google.com/fonts/ i think i've fixed the fonts on the page. i have no way of actually knowing until the page is back up, though.

I could host it for you, if you want

unless you were using a web import of some kind (I can't check right now for obvious reasons), or someone had it installed on their device already (which would be the case for android and chromeOS users, and anyone else who installed it manually), they won't be able to see that font and their browser will default to whatever their default is set to

it would be best to have a list of fonts set, with the first being "Roboto," and the final one being "sans-serif" which will ensure that at the very least, a serif font isn't selected. unless a user has intentionally set their sans-serif default to a serif font, in which case that's their problem
anything between those two is optional, but you would probably wanna stick some other preferable ones in there anyway

although the actual link in the op is still down atm, you can check out https://cadoth.net/~tudor/index.html instead for now

the www.cadoth.net/~tudor/ issue is now fixed. if you still get redirected, try doing Ctrl-F5 before it redirects you.

anyway, i've added something pretty major. try the button! (the transition is a placeholder)
(the button is also now an .svg, making it look better on mobile and such)

edit: or maybe now? can't decide which looks better.

edit2: alright, i think i'm set on the current look of the two modes.

now for the images and transition

after taking some typography advice as far as easy reading goes and making a vector background using /math/ because inkscape is a piece of stuff, i think i'm finally settled on the final look of the site

go check it out pls.

edit: also, it's definitely not mobile friendly right now. that'll have to wait.
