Mac OS 10.5 & v7/v8/v9

Well, I have Leopard, and the auto-updater for Mac doesn't work. I'm still running version 1.031 and tried the manual patches, but they're Windows executables (.exe) which I cannot open/run. Any word on future Mac support? Will v9 be available for me and the rest of the Apple crew? Is Badspot planning to do anything for the (lack of) Mac patches?

The difference between 1.031 and v8 is minimal, so I didn't bother with a mac update.  v9 breaks network compatibility so it there will be a new mac version.

The auto-updater for mac is not a high priority.

Actually, there are missing particles in the base file system, so the mac users can't join some servers, so an update is needed...

Dedicated server possibilty for macs would be nice too, since macs perform better then windows it could lead to a few more nice dedicateds...

Which particles?  They should auto-download if you don't have them.

1.  That's not true and a troll.
2.  I'm pretty sure you already can run a dedicated server on the mac just by using the -dedicated switch.

Tom

Sometimes a get a MISSING PARTICLE error when joining a server. Also mission Editor doesn't work on mac. I have a mac.

You can get mission editor on mac. I have it, but that's just cause I have TGE. There's probably a way to get it to work for BL too.

And the MISSING PARTICLE ERRORS DRIVE ME CRAZY! Happens on all the good servers. The RPGs - Dilt's, Rky's, all of em. D:

In other words - if it will fix it, I WANTZ T3H UPDAT3!

well, knowing form experience, some particles like /particles/heal.png don't download on servers that have Dilt's wands. Other particles randomly don't download for some reason  :panda: making you not able to connect to some servers :_(

The reason this does not work is that Mac does not use .batch files. This is also the same reason that Mac's can't use mission editor. For the next version could you include the mission editor in the .app?

yes please, wouldn't be that hard.

You can edit the mission editor into the main.cs but Badspot doesn't like that.

The mac equivalent of the .bat file is .sh (shell script).  Make one.  Or just type the command into the command prompt.

I'll look into the particle thing but it may have been a v8 fix.  I believe it was when you needed a particle but the server had the mod installed wrong (as usual) so it couldn't find it in order to send it to you.

So true...

Tom

If someone tells me what should be in the shell script; I could make a installer/runner automator app for mission editor.

If someone tells him how to do everything, he'll take the credit for it

macs perform better then windows

Any type of comparison between the two platforms could not be nearly that cut and dry.

1. High-end Mac hardware is not inherently better than high-end PC hardward.  New Macbooks are using Intel CPUs and NVIDIA GPUs, just like a lot of PCs.

2. Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) is nearly as bad as Windows Vista in terms of breaking software / hardware compatibility.

3. Mac is still very much a niché platform in terms of market share.

hehe, trader said hardward  :cookieMonster:
