Author Topic: BLF, I need financial help.  (Read 1919 times)

backstory:

Last year in late August, my cousin moved to Japan to get a job teaching English. Since then, my brothers who are 27 and 26 decided that they want to travel there to visit my cousin, and have sort of a vacation.

They are planning to leave for Japan in June or August, im not sure which however.

issue:

Now, I need to raise aproximately 2000 dollars to fly to Japan and be there for a week, so far I have like 9 dollars or so laying around.

I did some calculations, I have to make 125 dollars per week starting now to go to Japan by June. But how the hell am I going to make as much money if im at school fulltime?

This is a once in a lifetime experience, that my brothers get to have but I cant because im not out of highschool making actual money.

if yall wanna donate im up for that but if not please tell me what to do

Do homework for others for money.
Or get a part-time job, or both.

sell crap on craigslist

y don't you ask your brothers to help you out
I don't think many people are going to feel super up for donating towards a leisure trip

go fund yourself
sorry i couldnt resist i love you i didnt mean to hurt your feelings :C

i wasnt asking for donations im asking for suggestions because im some highschooler going to school fulltime and in need of the money of working 4 8 hour days a week

get a job
just not go dude
you can go any time it's not like they're gonna die
go when you have money

tbh i wouldn't call this a once in a life time opportunity, you're only 15 you pretty much haven't even started your life yet. You have 3 more years until your 18 and considered an adult.
I mean even if your cousin isn't still teaching there by the time your an adult there's nothing stopping you from still going

if you get a job, normally, you'd need to get $25 dollars per day every day (weekends off) starting this very moment

curious, why do you want to go?

I'm sorry friend but you're not going to make that, especially not at age 15. On the bright side though, it's definitely not a once in a lifetime experience. Later when you get older, money will be easier to get, and of course much more flexible with time. Being hired will be a lot more common and you'll start at a (probably) 7 USD per hour payflow at age 16 if you do decide to start working. This amount can vary, but if you're not selling yourself short, that's the salary you should root for.

It's common for people of your age to think that everything that happens is very important and will never happen again, but life is a lot longer than you think, you'll definitely have a chance to go to Japan again, maybe with your brothers, maybe with your friends, but for sure at an older age.
I was the same at your age, when I was 16 years old I just had to get a ticket to PA to visit someone, and if I didn't that would mean the end of the world to me, I eventually got a job at a local fast food chain and tried really hard at it, but despite that it killed my free time and my mood because I wanted to raise money so badly.

After a few months I had only raised about 20% of my goal and I couldn't bear the job anymore, so I quit.
It was disappointing to accept that I couldn't go on said trip and that I wouldn't see that person, but at that age, you're just not supposed to be doing that kind of stuff yet, especially not of that budget.

Raising money goes very slow at young age, and I encourage you, although it does suck, to wait until you're older. It doesn't last as long as you think, I've actually just been 18 for 3 months now and I'm already on enough funding to move out of the house, yet I only work one day of the week! I'm actually still processing that.

Another plus side on waiting is that you learn how to go around with money. 2000 Dollars is a lot, and I bet that future you would've loved it too if you saved that money for e.g your car as you (assumably) are going to get your license next year! I can promise you, you'll be able to take this trip at a better moment in time. :)

oh gosh

because its japan, furthest ive ever traveled was mexico. itd be somewhat of a vacation, and a chance to see a cousin and close relative i havnt seen in a year that i used to hang around all the time.

By the time id be 18, id have no connections in Japan, such as my cousin. If he is in Japan, then that means I dont have to pay for a hotel for a week, which would save more than half a thousand dollars id believe, and some other things id probably save too.
