Bayonets on the old battle rifles were actually suppose to be dull to cause more blunt force trauma, generally more damaging than sharpened ones. Initially its actual use is intended to act as a separate entity from a knife and used exclusively on your rifle. I own the same type of bayonet along with the rifle that goes with it.

That seems like it would be violating several war crime conventions but w/e. I don't see the point of causing maximum pain and damage to tissue.
