Bayonets on the old battle rifles were actually suppose to be dull to cause more blunt force trauma, generally more damaging than sharpened ones. Initially its actual use is intended to act as a separate entity from a knife and used exclusively on your rifle. I own the same type of bayonet along with the rifle that goes with it.

My dad has a Mosin-Nagant. It probably belonged to the soldier that your grandpa killed
