Author Topic: What if Kompresor and Badspot restore interiors and terrains?  (Read 8919 times)

There's a mod called static maps by wrapperup

the game would be pretty fun again

the only thing i still dislike about v21 is that maps were removed because they stalled development, and that we were promised quicker updates without them. I mean we got a few bug fixes and a raised brick count which i liked but those still fall short of the amount that was predicted

love me some shaders tho

would i like it? absolutely. i don't think anyone would be opposed if they were to be re-added with no tradeoffs

I played some v20 blockland over the weekend (btw Port's port comes with a custom master server, but nobody's ever on it), and I was surprised at my utter lack of motivation to build when I had the option of just wandering around and messing with skis.

idc if pre-shader blockland "looked like stuff", looks are the least important feature. also even minimum shaders could put a strain on low graphics computers (so I never even have shaders on)

various maps were fun to build, dm, and rp on

Are we really still having this debate?

It's been nearly three years, for God's sake. Pre-shader Blockland looked like utter garbage, and if removing interiors and maps helped fixed a ten year old game in order to prolong its lifespan (let's face it, we probably would have started capping new users if it couldn't compete with even Roblox), if anything you should all be grateful.

What advantage did the bedroom have over not having the bedroom? What about building in it made it any better than not? If anything it hindered creativity as it put restraints on where you could and couldn't build. Most of the time I spent in the bedroom consisted of exploring outside of it and having more space to actually build in. Or I just played in slate or construct anyway.

The bedroom, the kitchen, they were novelties that were nice to play in but served no integral function or feature to the game outside of an aesthetic one. If you want the bedroom back so badly, go and get the static maps mod. It's been out for over a year and has already fixed your so-called problem.

These threads are just becoming a nuisance at this point.
People are getting bitter that interiors are gone and are lying to themselves to cope with the pain.

It would really be best if they were re-integrated into the game.

this argument will never end

what is the point of arguing when the decision to do nothing is badspot's? stop attacking other community users out of frustration that badspot is silent about any progress. Arguing among ourselves won't get anything done other than raise tension within the community that badspot can easily ignore, if he even finds out about it in the first place.

also we can't just revert back to V20 or something - since the switch to shaders, the engine has been updated and some functions depreciated. If interiors are ever going to come back, it must be ported over to V21+, or else a ton of mods will break.

-snip-

With shaders off, the game looks the same as it did back then. And many people do play with them off for tactical advantages.

Slopes alone is reason enough to want maps back. You just can't get the same effect with terrain generations. Firstly, the collision with skis into terrain bricks is bad. Then you have to consider that the amount of bricks needed for a refined slopes map is insanely more graphically taxing than the static map was. And bricks don't repeat infinitely either.  For those who don't use shaders, the removal of maps was a huge loss.

Shaders are pretty, but I don't play an indie game for the lighting.

new drinking game: take a shot every time someone makes one of these threads

hv ai won th fame yet?

*agrees*

why is anybody legitimately defending the removal of /gameplay features/ in exchange for eye candy

shaders are completely useless, and their addition was pretty much for no reason. they didn't really improve the appearance of the game, or extend its lifespan in any way, or make development any more frequent.

Exactly.

Yeah, I just wish we knew what Badspot was up to nowadays. His blog isn't even any use in that regard and I don't think he's got anything else.
I'd be nice to know if Blockland has just stalled development forever or not.

You could always make your own terrains or interiors with modter, that's what I do. Works just as well.
