But the studios don't care about DVD sales, they care about Box Office sales.
While kids can't buy an 18+ DVD, they can watch it if purchased for them. But by law, a kid can't see an 18+ film in the cinema, even with parents permission.
Which means the studio is potentially cutting off a large audience by having a high rating.

Is the 18+ rating in the UK and wherever else that uses it the same as an "X rated" movie in the United States? Or is it "R rated"? I'm pretty sure you mean "R" (Restricted). In the USA, kids are allowed into R-rated movies only if they have a guardian with them.

As far as in person purchases go, it's illegal to sell 18+/M games to minors.
M is 17+ and is fully legal to sell to a minor but as stated earlier can fall under store policy. 18+ or AO on the other hand can not even be sold in stores and can only be bought online.

The reason i wont see anything from this annoying wave of super hero movies is because they are all to loving family friendly. (Not a single death in an avengers movie...)

Wash everything down for ticket sales and you end up with disillusioned fans in the long run.

When was the last time an X rated movie was released anyways? I'm assuming they can't even advertise them normally but still, have any been out?

Not really sure of the translation.
In the UK we have the following;
U, PG, 12A, 12, 15, 18 and R18
U is Universal. Anyone can see it.
PG is Parental Guidance. Anyone can see it, parents recommended for younger kids.
12 is 12 years old minimum.
12 is 12 years old, or younger with an Adult. (only applies to Cinema, not purchasing films).
15 is 15 years minimum.
18 is 18 years minimum.
R18 is 18 years minimum, but it categorises special interest films and research. So you'll only find it in love-shops and researcho theatres.

You can't watch a 12, 15 or 18 if you're younger than that, even with an adult.

they diddnt do it for watchmen so they wont here

Same. I loving hate the idea of watering down things for the sake of appealing to a "Broader audience".

The broader audience can suck a fat one, I wanna watch deadpool commit acts of super violence

As far as I've experienced buying R rated movies isn't illegal for minors, seeing as I've done it several times before at several different stores.

Buying the disc from a retail store, or buying a ticket to see it in a theater?

I think were discussing the latter, and I've found several sites saying "yes" and several saying "no"

The problem isn't ratings; the problem is parents.

It's inconsistent when buying DVDs. At walmart I hardly cared but like 90% of the time an R rated movie went through no problem. 10% of the time the register said to check for age and even then I ignored it because I don't care, it's a movie.

The one time it said check for age was some R rated chick flick comedy.

I'm an adult and I don't know what Deadpool is. I must just keep myself too cut out from mainstream media.
