Then we send them to Australia

Then we send them to Australia

but the 8th amendment doesn't allow cruel or unusual punishments

And once they reach Australia, there is no going back. It's a life sentence in a burning hell. Your voice becomes weird. You suddenly want to go surfing and box with kangaroos while wrestling crocodiles. Your loveual orientation goes awry. You use happy drugs and scream a lot. You lose yourself.

Don't commit crimes in Criminal Criminals Jail.

Australia's national anthem is screaming

All I have to do to be executed by firing squad is be a Mormon and commit crimes in Utah. Fascinating.

contrary to popular belief, the guillotine is actually painful for about 15 to 30 seconds as it has been studied by observing the severed heads for the short time they are conscious upon being separated from the body (though this occurrence of being conscious is rare).
Thing is, I don't think people care too much about other people in pain so long as they aren't aware of it.
When your head is quickly chopped off by a guillotine you can't scream (no lungs attached to your airway), and you can't struggle and convulse (besides residual twitching that a body may exhibit, your nervous system has been severed so you can't control your body).

To the outside viewer, there is no pain. Maybe they pull a pained face if they were still alive, but there's no moaning or major signs of distress.
Compare that to a hanging gone wrong, and you can hear someone choke, and you can see them twitch and try to free themselves.

So, maybe there is pain for those who die by guillotine, but it's a short-lived pain anyway, and to the observer, there's not much evidence of it.

i jerked off to a hung body once because the positioning was really hot so i couldn't help it
also she was dead so that sucks for her

And that's where the fine line of "it's about us not them" becomes apparent. We take pain for granted as long as its not us, especially if it isn't us losing our lives. But that's just what our social structure has deemed important. :)

"Oh thank goodness i don't have to hear him moan in pain! It could scar me for life!"

There's a good reason these methods have dropped off (no pun intended). But at least injection mimics sleeping instead of us needing to actively mutilate the person with a rope or a heavy blade. The least we can do is allow the victim to maintain their humanity.

Honestly the whole "send them to australia" thing they did back then was pretty genius. But now there's no practical place to exile killers and insane individuals.

I look forward to intergalactic space travel. We'll be able to start sending people to designated hospitable prison planets for them to live in their own twisted world.  :cookieMonster:
