Do you go to fill something in, and you come to select gender, but there's 3 options instead of two?! All these years you have trained to select the M option, so much so that it's muscle memory. You haven't thought about which to select in years. Now everything has changed. That third option, it's sitting there, taunting you. You have to think, 'what am I?', for the first time in your life. Your bedrock foundation on which your identity sits has been cracked and shaken! Questions tear through your mind, your every moment of existence rushes into your head as you desperately grasp for a clue to the answer. As your brain squirms and chews over what colour your underpants were as a kid, your arms shiver and sweat, your legs quake and quiver, your stomach twists into a diamond knot, while tears begin to form at the corners of your eyes and you bite down on your lips as they attempt to wobble like jelly. Standing there above the form, your whole being a nervous wreck, your entire life collapses around you! All because of this third option. Your mind pulls itself away from brown townysing your life's memories, as it begins to notice your surroundings and the gut-wrenching scene you are making in line at the DMV. Your buttery legs compose themselves for a moment and you release the vice grip upon the pencil you hold above the form. As the pencil drops time slows to a crawl, while you watch the sharp graphite point fall onto the form. As it bounces it reveals the slightest marking within the box labeled 'other'. This is the last thing you see before your eyes stream with tears, your vision blurred. Your legs begin to run, past the line of people and straight for the door.
This was the day you were beaten by the 'other' option.
