Author Topic: Nation Forge — Iron Desert [1863] — Beware the Ides of March  (Read 201425 times)

Fresh artillery pieces are sent from Seris to Kyrev by train, along with Kyrev-specification bolt-action rifles and revolvers. Ammunition is sent too.

The near-million man military of the Realm rapidly begin to surround and encroach on West Sunyong's cities. Bombardment is only performed on confirmed military targets, as the natives of Sunyong are respected - after all, their culture already has a presence within the Realm. West Sunyong's native population is encouraged to take up arms against Gruzia so that they may enjoy significant autonomy and freedom within the Romekate Realm.

The superiority of the Brandt rifle is demonstrated fully. Each and every infantryman is able to stay in cover, reload and fire multiple times per minute without trouble. Kyrevan artillery counterfires in the apparently now dug in despite advancing Arconian line. The sheer amount of men pushing this unprepared flank while also being fired upon from the front is anticipated to crumple the Arconian push.

Crappy drawing but this is the Arconian defense line.  The black line is supposed to represent borders of Avalonia and Kyrev.  Naturally the artillery defense isn't hundreds of miles long, but it's scaled up to show the shape.

Mobile cannons from the normal line relocate to the south end.  Cavalry move out to attack the Grúzian force while some of the infantry in reserve in the back move to provide fire support.

By virtue of the NCO being about cooperation and the majority of NCO members opposing Seris, Seris is ejected from the NCO.

Kyrevian rifle fire is proving ineffective by the seige guns' steel shielding and armored sliding doors used to cover the cannons while they are reloaded.

Half of the western division heads southward to assist.

are you moving those by rail

Must be a pretty dope hovercraft to be able to move over sand and be heavy enough to have sliding steel plates that deflect artillery.

Since apparently there's no front line infantry, the two hundred thousand man hammer just pushes forward I guess? This is a weird defensive line

must also be pretty expensive, you can ask all of the steel buddies

Primarily, but horse/camel/man-propelled once out on the battle front.  They can't move very quickly at all, but they are strongly defensive.

They have multiple broad wheels to lessen the amount of energy concentrated on one point in the sand.

And no, they don't deflect artillery.  They just deflect heavy rifle fire.  The seige guns were focused on artillery and infantry where needed and are not advancing due to the fact that they can't be moved unless un-rooted.

Arcon has been trading for steel with Romekate for a while.

so are my artillery divisions firing blanks rn because I've been counterfiring your stationary defensive lines that don't have infantry apparently

What, no.  I sent down the Southern and Eastern divisions, which have a strong focus on infantry.

so why aren't my rifles doing any damage to them and why aren't my artillery doing any damage to anything whatsoever

Your rifles are not affecting the siege guns to any successful degree.  Your artillery is being shot at by the siege guns, slowing down their effectiveness, but not halting it.  The infantry forces are clashing.  Arconian cavalry is also engaging Kyrevian forces periodically as they weave in an out at various points.

Suqiu falls to the massive Romekati force.

Juncoph is to have control over Arcon from 16:15 to 21:00 PST.

The border between West and East Sunyong is even more heavily fortified, having been for some time since Sunyong's annexation. The people of Sunyong are reminded that the Romekate had been the nation that invaded them initially, and nothing will be stopping them from becoming New Romekate's puppet should they choose to make them one. Those within Sunyong is promised better economic benefits, as well as development and growth of their cities should they not resist, and better acceptance of their culture, should they remain pacifist or support Grúzia-Nec. The civilians within the city are also evacuated further to the center of the nation.

Gendarmerie and other military forces keep up heavy fighting along West Sunyong's cities, counter-bombarding the opposing force's artillery and armies. Street fighting becomes more-so a tactic for the K.g. Army and Gendarmerie on it's own, taking up garrison within housing structures, bombarded-out or not. Structures such as wire obstacles and chevaux de frise, already having been set up within the Sunyong cities and the defensive fortification line, probably give trouble to the assaulting Romekate military. Landeswehr, meanwhile, begins enacting scorched earth behind the scenes. Crops and other resources in Sunyong territory start to be torched as the military keeps up their urban warfare within Panguan and Suqiu, in an effort to keep them held back. As the military falls back, railroads and other forms of infrastructure are also destroyed by Landeswehr forces.

Outside of the cities, artillery batteries are made use of, putting heavy fire onto the assaulting forces, usually assisted by large concentrations of fire from infantry from defensive positions, all along the frontlines. As for the northern end, however, artillery batteries continue their barrage onto the Arconian force, more specifically, their own artillery and siege weapons. The chevaux de frise prove fatal and difficult for the cavalry, as well as the infantry being within their own dug-in fortifications and defensive structures. After the cavalry attack, more focused fire is released onto the attacking cavalry. (and possibly infantry if they are moving up)

Half of the western division reinforces the southern frontier.

Question, did you supplement your forces with Vanu Magriders?

How did you build something that is able to move in the desert, let alone at all, that can shrug off direct hits from 16 pound solid shot steel balls without being damaged and have this array use moveable parts?

Any cavalry push anywhere near infantry would be cut down by a rifle that fires 12 rounds per minute while sitting down, used by literal tens of thousands of men.

Combined Serisian and Kyrevan batteries, bolstered by further Kyrevan reinforcements, shell the dug in but advancing siege guns.
