Author Topic: school is making me depressed (GOOD NEWS)  (Read 2026 times)

ok so this is my junior year at Highschool and i've come to the conclusion (spoiler alert):

highschool sucks

I've gradually become less and less motivated to work as hard and now I'm at an all time low. Mostly because of two classes: APUSH (ap usa history) and english.
Some of you already know why I dont like APUSH:
/title
I was really good at regular World History, and I decided to take APUSH this year. The problem is, it's much harder than my teacher said it would be, and i'm always struggling on tests and quizes because I can remember the main idea of chapters well, but the tests and quizes always ask weird questions that I never thought of, and I end up failing them. This led me to taking excessive notes on like, literally everything in the textbook, but it ended up being way too much info for me to remember for the test and I still did bad. The only thing keeping my B in the class is the essays and discussions which I'm pretty good at, but I don't know it that will be enough to maintain a B for the class this semester. So my question is, for you APUSH students that are good at it, what's your technique?
In other words I work hard and see no profit from it, as I've gone down to a C now and with the AP test coming up I just feel like its hopeless to try anymore.

English on the other hand I am very good at - but the thing is, it's the same teacher as APUSH. This means we do just as much work as APUSH, and it's loads more work than the other english classes and get nothing extra from it. We just started reading our 4th book this year and it came with a huge packet of questions to answer. I thought it was pretty normal at first (still hated it though) until I talked with my friends from other classes, who have just started on their first book of the entire year.

Comparison:

They:
- get less questions
- get to read in class
- teacher explains what happens in each chapter (most of our books are in ye olde english)
- read less books than we do

We:
- get huge packets of questions
- once we finish 1 book the next day we start the new one with a new packet and everything (a big con here IMO, it makes me feel like I have to jump through hoops just to survive long enough to do the exact same thing over again)
- write multiple essays on each book
- don't read at all in class
- read much more books than they do
- teacher doesn't explain whats going on in the book at all, and during discussions just lets everyone go wild, and when no one understands the reading she gets angry and give us more work

The loads of work from English and the loads of work from APUSH take up most my time and I have little left for my other 4 classes. When someone complains that the english homework takes too much time away from other classes, the teacher just says "sorry i have no control over that" (she does for me though, yet does nothing)

So now I feel like all of this is for nothing, I try hard in APUSH and fail, and I try hard in English just to do the same thing again and again. Both wear me down and now I have no motivation left to do anything because it all seems pointless now.

TL;DR - My apush class is "work hard get nothing from it" and my english class makes me feel like i got the bad end of a deal

BONUS ROUND:
Another thing that pisses me off is that she openly says things like "haha you guys have so much work to do!!! XD" yet fails to realize we have other important things to do and thus never decreases our work to make time for it. Another thing that makes it unbearable is that she's a two-faced hypocrite, for example she told us that violence is a good way to make people not bully you and told us a story of how some kid was throwing snowballs at her sister and so she broke his nose. Later on some student was making fun of someone so they slapped them, and the teacher started going off about how he was "assaulting him".

no schoolwork is worth losing health over.

Talk to your teacher and explain how you feel.
She may be able to help you after class and explain more about the books you read and the questions you answer in history.

Don't struggle silently.

Talk to friends and family, teachers too.
Pray lots too, that will help. I hope this gets better for you Lego.

don't worry, school eventualy ends.

I feel you op
does your school also have a loving class system with grades like mine does where anybody who is below a 3.75 gpa is banned from almost everything and has no rights even to the point of WE CAN'T USE THE loving BATHROOM DURING CLASS LIKE WHAT THE forget

OP. Listen here and listen good.
You will pull through this. Have patience. Ask for help from an upperclassman or another teacher. A good venting technique is to write down what keeps you upset and burning it, then write up everything that makes you happy really bold and huge and hang it up. That is what you live for. If you have someone you look up to, giving up will make them really disappointed in you if they ever met you and find out.
Just don't give up.

oh right I forgot life already forgeted me
so do you wanna go to arby's or?
