Author Topic: more google earth shenanigans  (Read 3157 times)

just woke up so i decided to go back on google earth and find some more cool stuff

this is an old picture of the delaware/maryland state border from around 2006/07, as you can see, there are different colors and stuff. this is because all three of those sections were taken at different times within the same year or so. the really cool thing is, the exact border road is where the image splits from normal to a more pinkish tone. as you head west (up in this case), the image goes from pink to a more distorted, fuzzier image. pretty cool.

certain street view images will be obviously warped and almost have some sort of zoom effect. this is because sometimes street view sections will be saved as an in-between shot, meaning google automatically saved a street view moment or still as one going to another, giving this permanent effect to the picture. in this case it looks really wicked.

either the route is wrong, or the google car legitimately just down up a hill and the previous picture was just because the google car was flying down a hill at 80mph

i don't know why but the google car just drove around this parking lot, a lot. the route is really zigzagged and makes no logical sense

driveway to heaven??

ok this is just really weird. i don't know why the google car just drove off the parking lot and started going down this "unofficial" road that leads nowhere, let alone why it's about to steer into the grass.

pretty sure teleportation was involved

Google earth is truly magical

maybe delaware is just cursed

that's why no one goes there

when i was walking past my old school (my middle school is right up the street from my old elementary) and the google street car drove past and took a picture of me and a few of my buddies

if you go to that irl location you will enter a parallel universe

Right now I'm visible on the street view pictures for my neighborhood. The Google car came rolling by back in September while I was walking down the street.

Maybe it was one of Google's new autonomous cars that was being tried out for maps and then it had a stroke or seizure while going in that area.

For this one, the car was definitely off-road, or else it wouldn't have a picture taken from above the dirt.
It may not have driven down the path that the yellow line indicates though. It doesn't look like there are tire-tracks in the dust/grass in that direction, so they certainly didn't come from that way, but may have driven down it.

For these two, the car probably didn't follow those paths, as the picture is taken from above the road itself.
The data for the roads that are there just don't match up.

I don't think the path displayed on Google Streetview comes from the route the car took. Instead they try to match up the information for roads that they already have from their other sources.
Obviously they don't always translate properly, particularly on the more off-beat dirt side-roads.

Are there any hills in Delaware?
