The Defense of Earth [XCOM: Enemy Within] [Chapter 2: Contact Confirmed]

It was a peaceful, calm and relaxed night in New York, people were walking about on the busy streets as they talked, visited one of the many opened shops and went about their business like usual. Everything appeared to be fine up until the invasion began:

The sudden barrage of meteors surprised everyone, nobody was prepared and many lives were lost in the explosions caused by the high-speed impact of multiple "pods", CCTV footage shows that not everyone was intelligent enough to evacuate and run away from the area.

3rd of March, 2015

The very next day, the Council of Nations was created by 16 countries which all had a common goal, to protect the Earth from the incoming horde of extraterrestrials. I received a video message that informed me I would be serving as the commander in something called 'The X-COM Project' the very same day as the council was created, I didn't have a choice seeing as they were confident in my abilities to make this 'project' work.

I was transported to an underground base somewhere in South America by an armed escort, I was instantly outfitted and put to work, a man named John Bradford introduced himself and informed me that we would need soldiers to fight a war, afterwards asking me if I knew any capable soldiers that could be recruited to help the X-COM project in fighting the war against extraterrestrials.

Some basic rules, I know you want this to be wacky and crazy, but please use realistic names for your characters.

Without any hesitation, I suggested Cassius Kissinger and Miguel Garcia, both good men I worked with during my stay in the army. Bradford accepted the two after a quick background check and dispatched two ground troops to find them and bring them to the base.

4th of March, 2015

After a short while of searching, both men were found and brought to the XCOM base, they were briefed on the XCOM project and what the immediate threat we should be worried about is, both men didn't question the role they would fulfill in the XCOM project and were then sent to the barracks for some rest.

Central Officer Bradford informed me that research workers weren't currently working on any projects, so I assigned the research staff to work on attempting to better understand the inner workings of the alien body, afterwards gladly providing them with any resources they required for their experiments.

As I was walking around the nearly empty halls of the underground base, Central Officer Bradford makes an announcement on the PA system.

: New recruits are arriving and are currently entering the base.

Upon looking at the main entryway, what seemed to be 30 all the way to 40 men and women began walking around the facility, they all seemed like they had no idea what they were doing here,  some were bugging the staff to give them directions while the others were just walking towards the barracks. But out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of a rookie who came equipped, his name is Algernon Burke.

All the rookies began walking around, Algernon headed to the firing range to get some training time in, everyone else proceeded to muck about in barracks and the bar.

10th of March, 2015

Multiple days have passed without any action, but today was different. The alarms of the building started sounding off as we were informed by the Council of Nations that a representative of the council was attacked and possibly taken hostage in Japan, a team of four XCOM soldiers is to be dispatched to deal with the situation.

Respond Team:

Algernon Burke, Miguel Garcia, Cassius Kissinger and Nicole Farith.

Miguel Garcia: Move up ahead and scout for any enemy presence, Algernon.

Algernon Burke: Copy that, moving to position.

Algernon Burke: Enemy spotted, holding.

Both Nicole Farith and Cassius Kissinger go behind cover and wait for any enemy to pass by, waiting for a chance to open fire.

Algernon Burke: He is aiming right for me! Requesting assistance!

The alien and Algernon trade fire, Algernon is hit in the shoulder in the exchange while missing all his shots, Nicole spots the enemy from the side and attempts to fire.

Nicole Farith manages to strike the alien in the head, killing the alien instantly.

The entire squad proceeds further down into the bridge, Algernon spots a sectoid further down the road and decides to deal with it using explosive ordinance.

Cassius uses the explosive distraction to push further down for the VIP, but is spotted as he tries to make a run for the vehicle the VIP is located next to.

As the sectoid raises his pistol to fire at Cassius, Nicole unloads a barrage of LMG bullets and kills the sectoid.

Upon Nicole shooting the sectoid, another one pops out from behind cover, Cassius attempts to shoot and kill the sectoid, but his efforts are met with his bullets flying wildly to the right.

But before Algernon can respond, a thin man alien hops over the barricade of the bridge, revealing himself to Algernon and Nicole, causing both of them to make snap reaction shots in an attempt to eliminate the incoming threat.

The VIP is escorted to cover as another thin man alien hops the barricade of the bridge to find himself in the open.

As the Skyranger lands, Peter Van Doorn is quick to enter to evacuate. Another Skyranger lands to pick up all remaining soldiers on the ground.

Albeit the injury of two troops, the mission was considered a success as promotions flew around the squad.

Our fresh new recruits began training for combat, nobody caught my eye except for a recruit, going by the name of Rezaian Scryetzk who utterly refused to wear the proper protective gear, insisting that he was good enough at his job to not need protective equipment.

After training was completed, I was informed by Central Officer Bradford that our satellites over Brazil have spotted some type of UFO flying around, it wasn't a good idea to bring it down and it wasn't a good idea to allow it to fly free, so in the absence of any good ideas, I ordered for an interceptor to bring down the UFO.

After the interceptor is launched, it immediately engages the UFO and sends it crashing down via unleashing a barrage of missiles on it.

The entire room erupts in cheers and clapping as the pilot reports back his success, staff magnifies the image of the downed UFO.

Following the suggestion Central Officer Bradford made, I dispatch a Skyranger to deploy a strike team on the crash site.

12th of March, 2015

Nicole Farith: Alright everyone, move out!

Cassius Kissinger: Any hostiles yet?

Rezaian Scryetzk: Negative, no hostiles spotted yet.

Cassius Kissinger: Moving up the barn with Nicole, cover me.

Rezaian Scryetzk: Advancing to the front of the barn, cover ME.

As Rezaian is rushing to cover, he accidentally triggers the car alarm, causing two nearby sectoids to pop out of cover.

Rezaian Scryetzk: Dawh, hell.

Cassius Kissinger: You just had to do that, didn't you?.

Both Sectoid enemies fire at Rezaian and miss, Nicole attempts to fire back but misses wildly.

Nicole fires her LMG again and manages to strike an alien sectoid.

Meanwhile, Ayaka has moved up to the side of the crashed UFO and is investigating the crash.

Ayaka trades fire with the unknown type of alien and manages to kill it.

Ayaka continues to hide behind cover as the firefight continues in the front of the barn.

All soldiers proceed to head to the left, attempting to find any more remaining aliens that require extermination.

The gunfire from the sectoid manages to hit Cassius Kissinger, as a last ditch effort to not suffer any more casualties, Nicole unholsters her RPG and proceeds to fire at the sectoids.

All XCOM operatives sweep the area for any remaining extraterrestrials but fail to find anything, staff from the base flies in the area and isolates it, cleaning up the mess the crash made.

The Council personally thanks me and my troopers for the work we have done so far, the morale all around the base is lifted, engineering and research staff are working faster and recruits are training even harder.
