dogs actually care about their owners
I adopted a cat when it was a kitten, it had been rescued after it's mother died and was abandoned. When we first got him he was terrified of everything and hid under my parents bed for about a week and would only come out to eat and then go back. Every day I would get down there and just talk to him and eventually the little guy came out and started purring/headbutting me and stuff. That cat loved the stuff out of me, he used to wait by the window for me to get home every day, he was never bored of me, he was always affectionate, ect.
The difference is I payed attention to him, I fed him every day, I cleaned his litter box, I gave him attention. Most people get a cat and by the 2nd week they're already bored of it and cbf giving it attention beyond putting food in it's dish and shoveling it's crap bi-daily. If you actually give a stuff about your cat, chances are it's going to give a stuff about you too. As a matter of fact, cats get pretty loving depressed when they don't feel loved, and due to the stereotype this has a tenancy to exacerbate the issue.
