All sources say the protest was largely peaceful up until the violence that began later into the night. The old woman who was pushed over was arrested for interference, whereas an eyewitness claims she was "telling others to stand behind her "because the police won't bother an old lady'. "

Take that as you will.

Protestors violently attack road by laying down on pavement

Protestors display gang signs by holding up hands

Of course the noble police force dealt with the situation maturely

throwback to when half the conservative base here was calling to make it legal to mow down anyone protesting on streets with bullets

Protestors block public road

Protestors surrender as they should

Of course the noble police force dealt with the situation maturely

Can we get a conclusive consensus on whether or not the existence of fringe violence in an otherwise peaceful protest invalidates it's message? Some people still seem to be really confused about this topic.

It doesn't. Why would it.

The obvious answer is no but of course some people are always gonna be obtuse about it

protest is just a means for a group of citizens to right the social contract. no matter the acts, that is always true, so acts of protest always have political value. the power majority will always discourage and resist protest because it undermines their authority and order, but that's frankly the entire point. the legality and morality of the acts may be questionable, there's no such thing as a protest with no meaning or value.

The police trampled over this old woman using "words"

"chimps"
Definitely not tribal

Ah yes because this one instance means this the entirety of police crackdown on rioters
And btw, I never mentioned black people when I said chimps, so really, you're tribal for assuming "chimps" means black people, and not degenerate handicaps acting a fool in public. :^]

So let's say we have a protest on police violence, something some people here like to make abundantly clear they don't really care about, nor do they feel affected by. How can they claim that the message of the protest is invalidated by fringe violence if they didn't care about the message to begin with?

If a group of people feels unsafe or insecure in their community due to perceived police violent, protesting seems to be a pretty valid way of letting your feelings be known. Plus that, and protesting is a largely American thing to begin with.
