Author Topic: School rules you've never understood the purpose or think serve no purpose  (Read 21847 times)

A few recent incidents at my school made me think of this. Perhaps this will lead to answers but I guess this could primarily be a place to throw your rants or whatever.

Hats in the building, Personally I see no problem with this as long as it doesn't conceal the face or isn't a distraction in class.

Requiring the student to stand during the pledge of allegiance

We weren't allowed to wear coats inside, like at all.
We would come in from outside, where it was raining, and be immediatelly bollocked at for still wearing our coats.
Like, give us a loving chance to get to our class first. :/

same
i assume its due to headphones/earbuds but people (myself included) get away with wearing them out in the open

Muslims can wear hoods but no one else can

I get it is religious but they should still have to follow the rules or the rules should be changed so everyone can wear hoods

I find it handicapped how my school forces the theory and then the practice because we sit freezing our asses studying the theory and when we get to do the practice and have to turn on the fires, it's hot as hell, we need to turn off the fans and close the windows so they don't get blown out.

we also have to wear school ids and charge every time you need a new one
that isnt the problem
the problem is the printer is right there and they can just make a new card
if you dont pay them the $5 owed they give you a detention until you pay them back
like why
you're wasting money on a new pool that costs thousands of dollars and get textbook money
but we already have a pool and godforgetlasjaklfha the printer's right there

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

gum and hats
but those aren't rules at my school anymore

"required" to wear a school ID at all times
normally I wouldn't say anything about it since I understand why it's there, but the rule only seems to be active for like the first few weeks of a semester then everyone forgets about it completely

hell one time I even got loving detention for forgetting to bring my ID one time near the beginning of the school year but the entire last half of the school year nobody cares that I never wore it again

I get it is religious but they should still have to follow the rules or the rules should be changed so everyone can wear hoods
...no they shouldn't? it's a religious thing.
not allowing hoods is ridiculous anyways

the same goes for
Requiring the student to stand during the pledge of allegiance
which shouldn't be a rule either.

Quote
Minersville School District v. Gobitis, 310 U.S. 586 (1940), was a decision by the Supreme Court of the United States involving the religious rights of public school students under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. The Court ruled that public schools could compel students—in this case, Jehovah's Witnesses—to salute the American Flag and recite the Pledge of Allegiance despite the students' religious objections to these practices. This decision led to increased persecution of Witnesses in the United States. The Supreme Court overruled this decision a mere three years later, in West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943).
