Author Topic: My old pc went bang.  (Read 1563 times)

So like 10 mins ago i got out this very old pc of mine. I set it back up, plugged it in and then it goes bang in my face. After going dizzy for a bit like rick in the tank with the gun, I noticed it turned off everything else in my room then lounge room. I freaked the heck out and ran out to the fuse box and turned it all on again, got back inside and all the stuff works ok now. I didn't care much about the PC but I have two questions

Is the HDD goneskis

Is it safe to touch the pc to remove it from current area

Best thing to do first is figure out what exactly blew up. I've heard of hardware catching fire but not EXPLODING...

I'm pretty sure it was the power supply as it was closest to my head and was smoking after

my power supply blew up not long ago lol

Turn the fuse back off, and make sure it is cooled down, get it unplugged, and then get rid of it.

watch out if its an old CRT monitor too

wait, it still works partially after it exploded? am I interpreting this right?
because if i am then your computer must be hardcore or something, normally parts are really sensitive and would be completely dead

if not then your stuff's probably fried, including the HDD. I'd say as long as you're grounded safely it's probably ok to touch it either way, once it's unplugged

hell, just wear rubber gloves if you're going to touch the inside, really

If there was a lot of smoke, then a capacitor probably blew up, and you probably shouldn't use it unless you find the cap that blew (if it did at all).

It had a Celeron D in it so that might give and idea of how old it is

I removed the plug when it went off from the PC and power board, its not connected to anything

No monitor, i was just checking if it worked.

Can you give a make, model and any other information about it? Simply giving a processor type won't help all that much.

Show us a pic of the part you think exploded

Its got Acer Power SK on it

Look can I touch it, there isn't any source of power going to it
