I think the problem is the pharmaceutical industry and the health insurance industries, who artificially jack up prices to turn a profit. Some medications cost a few dollars, but when they hit retail, cost around 40 dollars. Also, because of how broken the FDA is, Americans often get drugs that are proven to work in other areas of the world through practice years after their initial release elsewhere. That, or because of the cost to get drugs processed through the FDA, only the larger companies with capital to burn can get anywhere with it. Additionally, businesses are free to use discretion. Why manufacture a drug that may be turn more profit in the short term if it cures you than to provide a cheap pill that only contains the problem if it will keep them as a regular customer?
