Author Topic: Why do cities have an obelisk?  (Read 1809 times)

It looks like a giant snake. Is there a reason why some cities have them?

Do you mean cenotaphs? They're usually in honour of fallen soldiers in wars.

Otherwise, obelisk are historically a mark of a victory or showing off wealth of the state or an individual. I believe Egypt is the historical home of the obelisk, as it was a land rich with marble. When the ancient Romans conquered the egyptians Augustus took many obelisks back to Rome.

Ah yes. That explains the names and the years carved into my city's.

piecrust is trying to get a funny goof out of us by making narrow minded richard jokes
And yes, Washington DC has a very tall one

How does this not look like a snake? a rather pointy snake. You could shank someone with this.

it looks nothing like a snake, unless your thinking of an animal one

With that logic then everything that's long and has a point at the end looks like a richard to you. Smh.
