Have fun getting blown off to the land of Oz

we had tornados and a horrible storm here in louisiana, but school was cancelled

I never understood the concept of the position, which is a pain when we have to do tornado drill procedures. However, one of my teachers said that when he was at a young age, students would go under desks with a textbook over their heads when a tornado warning initiated; that I can understand at a greater percentage than duck-and-cover.

if a tornado comes raging into your classroom that position won't save you

Well the reason that this formation is better is because you are in a hallway and most school hallways don't have windows with your hands over your head to protect your brain, but I dont understand the rest
