Author Topic: Snapchat Geofilters  (Read 3263 times)

Snapchat Geofilters are "filters" that people make for certain locations around the world on snapchat. I was wondering, has anyone made any geofilters? Have they gotten published?

I made 3 or 4, but only 2 have been published.

They're simple because I wanted to see how the process works.

The first one is for the city I grew up in, and the second is for one of the high schools for the city.

Post some cool ones you've found, or ones you've made.

What software are you using to make them, and how do you import them into your Snapchat app cache?

I'd love to do some local ones, but I haven't researched it a lot.
Posting your methods would be much appreciated.

I use gimp to make mine.

Snapchat geofilters are not based on your phone. They are GEOfilters, set in certain GEOgraphic locations. Like cities, towns, schools, plazas, etc.. When you upload your filter to Snapchat's website, you are brought to a map page, where you draw the outline of where you want your geofilter to be used. For instance, Chicopee MA. When I uploaded my file, I selected around the boarder of Chicopee. I had to have google maps next to it so I could draw the outline properly.

If you go to their website, they have the dimensions, file type, and how large the file can be. They also have a template you can download to you can properly set the filter up to fit.

EDIT; Once you submit your filter, you will have to wait until they email you back. The email will either say "congratulations, your filter will be added as soon as possible, or it will say "your filter has been unaccepted." They won't tell you why not, but it most likely means it isn't the best quality.

If you have any questions feel free to ask some more.

Thanks for the info.

I actually went ahead and made a Geo-filter for an infamous strip of highway near my home, prior to reading your reply.
I used paint.net and had almost no trouble applying transparency and saving in the proper format.

I'm excited to continue making more- it's truly a cakewalk.

With a little ingenuity, I can become the creative master of my area, >:)

Good looks OP, thanks for inspiring me.

Oh neat, thanks for this op. I'm gonna make some for my area, it'd be cool showing it to your friends.

Never actually heard of this until now, but it's pretty neat

Post it! I'd like to see.

i thought about making some but i figured they didn't just let anyone make them regardless of how good your digital design skills were.

but now that i see you've made some i might give it a try and make some for my high school

Depends on your area. The bigger the population, the higher quality the design should be. Like my town has a population of roughly 55,000.

One of my geofilter videos got in a live event story before.

Mine was apparently chosen for my town and school, but nothing yet. I'll try to find a picture of it
