Author Topic: Does more affordable college = more degrees = less value?  (Read 7750 times)

I cant even read, and i have this huge boat and all these bitches.
Buy my tape to learn how
here in my garage

what are you doing today lol

come to UMass and workout with me
Literally nothing. I'm tiny so no thanks. I'm going to start soon tho.

My sister went to college to be an engineer. She is now 500,000 dollars in student loan debt.

Sure she has a good job that pays a lot but she's not going to pay off that debt anytime soon so she's in the loving red for years to come. May even be in debt for the rest of her life.

Is it really worth it?

$500,000 is incredible and I'd love to know how she racked up that much

This is why college should be more affordable too btw

My dad is a bridge architect, he didn't need a college degree to prove how good he was at his job. He started from the bottom then went all the way to vice president in his company he use to work for. The company eventually closed.

Now he was good at his job, real great at designing bridges. However since he never had a degree he is unable to find other bridge designing jobs. He had no tangible proof he can design a bridge other than his drawings and real bridges that were made by his design and that is worth nothing apparently unless you have a degree in being a bridge architect.

Like I said, it's bullstuff.

There is a difference between being a civil engineer and a doctor, Tony.

Doctors need to go to school because of the difficulty of their field, there is a lot of stuff that there is to know about health and it's a cutting edge field that is making new discoveries every day. My mother is aiming to become a nurse and even that is up there in difficulty and info.

You think you need a college degree to become a videogame developer? Yeah, maybe if you want to work for Activision or EA or some stupid big shot company but if you self taught yourself you can make your own video game developing company.

People go to school for a videogame developing job but all those loving jobs are taken 9 times out of 10. Going independent is the way to go.
Shut the forget up, Tony. You don't know what the forget you're on about.

Independent development fails most of the time. This isn't bullstuff, it's the real loving world. I can guarantee most of those failures are because the developers didn't study game design or business and so their naivety leads to terrible games and bad business practice. You listen to any podcast by any successful indie game developer, and they'll tell you what the struggle was like to get serious and actually formally create and run a company and produce a game that sells well.

Nobody goes to a VG dev course for the job. They go because they want to be tutored in the skills, get contacts for the future and produce video games for their portfolio. Nobody gives a stuff about the slip of paper; it's all about what you manage to produce and show at the end. I can guarantee going to a GOOD design school is highly recommended.

One of my friends now works at Tt Games working on LEGO projects; he went for a programming course and got an internship at Two Tribes. Those opportunities may never have existed had he not started with the programming course.

Actually, that's a big part of college. Making connections to people who will get you into your career.

by the power of lord tony's imagination

it's literally like going to Harvard for 7 years

are you sure that's student loan debt and not loan shark debt

I would rather make crappy games at my own pace with all the creative freedom I need that sell for 1 dollar than work at TT games making recycled crappy lego games on strict deadlines with no creative freedom.

I've seen independent CGI designers that are happier doing independent work than going to school to do contract work on some stuffty movie like Paul Blart because their company contracted them to do it.

Go to school to have no creative freedom

Or

Self taught yourself to do your own thing.

I'd rather have the chance to fail on my own than become a tiny little drone ant and be moderately successful.

except you'll have way more experience taught by knowledgeable experts you can speak to directly

It's not.like you're locked into TT games you can do your own thing too but you'd probably be way better off than if you were to try and start your own thing

It's not like he can quit TT games easily to start his own stuff.

He is a drone ant working for TT games, he doesn't make a percentage of games sold. He has no royalties and now he probably has enormous bills to pay with all the stuff he bought with his LEGO money, car, house, etc. He may even have student loans still need to pay off.

He's probably deadlocked at this point and can't afford to make his own games in his garage.

Also considering he is a drone ant he'd be the first to get laid off if the company ever needs to downsize.

ok yeah because people at TT games totally work for free

Also having a company like TT games on your resume is a lot better then being self taught
