Author Topic: Does more affordable college = more degrees = less value?  (Read 7711 times)

since when does money have anything to do with getting into college? I could have 1 million dollars and stuff grades and they wouldn't accept me

it's the situation where i could have decent grades and no money and they would accept me but i couldn't pay

If you want cheaper education then end government subsidies of tuition

Schools are naturally going to charge exorbitant tuition fees when the government is guaranteeing payment

what
you can't get into college with no money (unless you have scholarships out the ass)
if you have the money you can go to college, given you're accepted

If you had a rich daddy that donated a wing to a college you essentially can get into that college no problem. Money is used to bribe off bad grades.

You need a college degree to be an anesthesiologist, surgeon, gynecologist, oral surgeon, internist, orthodontist, pathologist, neurologist, allergist, urologist, petroleum engineer, dermatologist, pediatrician, dentist, lawyer, civil engineer, physicist, nuclear engineer, astronomer, basically every single top paying job in the U.S.

My dad was a civil engineer without a college degree .

Also the rest of those is all medical jobs which is pretty damn obvious why you need a college degree for them.

those who think colleges give a stuff about grades, or even a hs diploma, clearly have never looked into colleges lol.
perhaps the top tier 1% of schools that are highly competitive to get into simply because of space needed for rich legacy children of powerful families. grades will help a middle clas person get into that.

but for all other normal schools that everyone here will ever even be allowed to see from a bus window, grades dont mean stuff lol. if you are funded, they will take you. enrollment is so low because of high cost, they will take anyone.

yes but if you ignore future consequences the concept of free college is more enticing than cheaper college

The point is to remove the financial barriers from people who have gotten into college. Lots of schools are need-blind, which means they can accept you even if you can't pay.

You go to any community college you can forget being CEO of walmart or whatever.

free college is certainly enticing until everyone's taxes get jacked sky high and no one has any buying power and students are still going to get stuffty degrees that mean nothing, seriously art degrees nowadays are absolutely pointless because art schools are so stuff, unless you are talking about graphic design or something

Not pointless. In this case, unless you're already some artistic prodigy, you can actually learn quite a bit of useful art stuff at college. Remember, unlike what some people would have you think, it's not always only about the slip of paper at the end.

It's pretty obvious once a big triple AAA game gets released you no longer need 100 people paid by the hour to maintain it.

Most of the staff gets cut off leaving down to 20 people working on bug fixing and server balancing and that's about it.

If anything he's lucky he is working at TT games because lego games are so recycled and easy to make that don't even require a detailed storyboard process that they are constantly putting out new lego games so when one game gets released they immediately start working on the next recycled asset lego game.

They won't need to lay him off because most game studios need long breaks in between to figure out on just a story.

Lego games just imitate an already made story based off whatever movie IP they are imitating. So you don't need a long ass hiatus to write the story of the year here.
lol the forget am i reading

i only used that as an example.  The point I was trying to make is that everyone thinks they need a 4 year degree or something and when they major women's studies they can't figure out why there aren't any jobs out there that cater to their major

I'm getting an associates degree in welding and can expect to make 100,000 a year starting off.  Vocational degrees are where it's at.  Most people don't need to be engineers or scientists.  The truth is, America is suffering from a vocational drought.  There aren't enough people coming out of high school that want to do stuff like construction, welding, industrial maintenance, etc, the stuff that builds the country.  I mean yeah engineering is great and all, but it's not for everyone.
