Author Topic: Nvidia GTX 980 or 970  (Read 5600 times)

I feel like it's a really stupid question to ask, but should I go for the 980 or 970? There's a bit of a price gap between them from what I can tell, but what I'm wondering is if I'll still get good performance using the 970?

What I'm looking to do is boost my FPS for GTA V. Right now, I average about 35-50 frames.

I have the 980 Ti and it's the best investment I've ever made

The 970 is more commonly used than the 980. Same goes for the 980ti. i'd say the 980 isn't really worth it as you could just extend your budget a bit and get a 980ti, or get a 970 which performs just fine.

What CPU do you have.

980 is worth it imo
what card do you have currently?
I actually asked about a budget build a while ago. Right now, my card just isn't doing it for me, the Radeon R9 270 with only 2 GB of memory. I have my birthday and Christmas to save money for, each averaging a total of $200-$250. If I start saving now, I might be able to afford the 980, and at the same time my birthday will be my 16th, so my parents wanted to do something special.
Maybe I can get the 980.

980. I have the 970 and it's pretty damn good, but I heard it has memory issues after using 3.5 GB of VRAM.

I have a GeForce GT 625. How big of a step up would a 970 or 980 be for me?

I average 90 FPS in LoL with low graphics

That would be six trillion steps ahead of what you have now yes.

That's what I assumed. I'm probably going to invest in a 970. My only worry isn't the cost itself but putting it in my computer.

They are all the same just use more power.

My 960 is doing me fine.

i have a 960 and run gta v at 60fps @ultra
so im sure a 970 could do even better assuming your cpu is good

Well, my cpu is an AMD FX 6300. I looked up a few things and I've heard it bottlenecks a 970. Should I just get a 970 and upgrade my cpu to something like the AMD 8350 instead?

Get a 4690K. It's commonly paired with a 970.

It's a hell of a lot more but if you're willing it'll pay off for you.
