Author Topic: Nvidia GTX 980 or 970  (Read 6564 times)

Like i said, blockland runs better on Nvidia cards. Why are you recommending an AMD GPU on the blockland forums?
lol where did you get this

If your going to buy a 980... Dont. Buy the R9 390X wich is basicly a GTX titan but better... And cheaper.
Or a R9 380(X) will also do.

You shouldnt buy nvidia cards unless you want shield or nvenc or whatever

Communist,i seriously wonder if you literally have all the AMD GPUs ever made up in your ass. This is getting absolutly ridiculous.
whats wrong with saying that AMD cards are more future proof? you made stuff up and now are throwing insults. and no, i have owned nvidia and AMD gpus. GTX 560 Ti, GTX 970. Amd 7770, 7870, R9 290X and 390X. i have that 560 ti in my brother's rig for CUDA acceleration for adobe programs and I think some audio stuff. R9 390X in my rig currently. i do my research. i don't know why you have a hard on for nvidia cards

he isn't exactly wrong, AMD cards have somewhat poor opengl performance. DX11 support is far better and early DX12 stuff show AMD completely wrecking Nvidia cards.

it doesn't take much to run blockland shaders. you won't see a difference between a GTX 970 and an R9 390 in this game. if you play just blockland, get a stuffty GTX 560 off of craigslist and you'll be fine

Crita you have no idea what you're talking about

????
again, i never said that most games only use 2gb, i said that i've never seen a game go over 2.8 on my 970, when did i say most games dont use more than 2gb of vram?

4gb > 2gb the extra money you spend is worth it

basically this-- i have a 380 (running with an fx-8320) and every game auto-sets to max

in fo4 (modded for better graphics) i only get drops below 53 when in diamond city
in bf4 i like never even drop below 57

So there was a little issue I've run into.

I wanted to upgrade to an Intel CPU, but that would require me to also upgrade my motherboard because it only has AM3+ sockets.

If I upgrade my CPU to the FX-8350, will it bottleneck the 970?

I doubt the 8350 does buuuuuut intels CPU's outpeform AMD by a mile because single core peformance.
But with directX12 coming it will handle the workload on CPU's better and allowing more cores so AMD's  8 (or 6) cores might peform better then Intel when DirectX12 comes out.
Anyways the 8350 will do and is p solid and almost peforms as good as your average i5. If you have more money to spend I suggest getting an i5 tough

You're missing the point. I can't afford to upgrade my motherboard so it's compatible with an Intel CPU.
If I were to get an Intel CPU, I would have just gone with an Intel i5 4690k, but my motherboard only supports the AMD CPUs. So, to compensate for it, I am going to go for the FX-8350.

Thanks for confirming that it won't bottleneck it though, that's all I was really worried about.

Well im not an expert so im not sure but I doubt it will
Just dont buy one of the 6XXX series because apperently those are garbage.

Another quick question. I'm just asking as many questions I can that I can't find a straight answer to because I want to make an investment that I won't regret, unexpected failure-wise.

Which brand of the GTX 970 would you guys say would be a good buy? I've been eyeballing the Gigabyte version of the 970.

id say go with an asus version, if the gigabyte one you're going to go with is that three fan version, there's no need for it at all, just more bark without any extra bite

GTX980 with an i7-4790 (not the 'K'/Unlocked version). I've run into a few setups that don't work (I can't max out every slider in GTA V or Fallout 4) but I get a consistent 60FPS in all games at 1080p.

just get an fx 8320 black edition and overclock it up to the same rate as the 8350, saves money

gigabyte; nice oc potential, lowest temps out of probably all GTX 970 models, not too loud.

although, id consider an R9 390 as well
