Why do white dads call their sons 'buddy'

I was at the park and this guy he was talking to his son and literally all i hear him say is Buddy, buddy, every 10 seconds after saying something else . Is this like, a thing they just do?

why would you give your kid a dog's name

because it would be pretty weird if you saw an adult speaking to a young child as if they were another adult

um so you can't call your children by their name when speaking to them?  That sounds suspicious
