Author Topic: Steam announced this new handicapped Market hold thing  (Read 7454 times)

Just go on the community market and see this security thing

As I read I was like WHY!?

It begins on march 9 before this thing is ruined just like trading

thanks for all the detailed info about it

i don't see the issue with trying to add a layer of security to protect against people's accounts getting hijacked and their items being traded off or sold. maybe that's just because i never trade or use the market though.

Basically just escrow but for the steam community market. You won't have a problem with it if you have the mobile guard thing set up

i couldn't find an article and I'm prob gonna be called lazy but when I googled steam market nothing came up except for older news.

idk wtf OP's talking about but I'm pretty sure the issue before was that you had to have a smartphone to use it after they made the change, and not everyone has smartphones
although honestly the only people I can think of who don't have smart phones these days are little kids and people who feel superior by not having a smartphone (idk why?)

i dont get why there ever needed to be delays and protections on market items
how exactly does a 5 day hold on trading my items help anyone
its not like im money laundering with 50 cent hats and trading cards

also this is what op is talking about:

Market holds will begin on March 9th, you can avoid holds and protect your account by enabling the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator now.
What is a trade or market hold?
A hold is a period of time where items are held by Steam before a trade is completed or a Market listing is posted.
Items holds help protect your items
Steam accounts are valuable, especially if they have items worth stealing. If you haven't protected your account with a physical device (the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator), a trade hold will give you time to discover your account has been compromised and to prevent your items from leaving your account.
A delay to catch and stop item theft
If a user trading away or selling items hasn't had their account protected by a Mobile Authenticator for the past 7 days:
Trades: item delivery from completed trades will be delayed by Steam for up to 3 days
Market: starting March 9th, sell listings will be held by Steam before they are posted, for up to 15 days

This provides the user time to cancel any pending transactions they didn't authorize.

Cancelling trades that are pending or in a trade hold will begin a trading cooldown on your account to prevent any further unauthorized attempts to trade away items. There is no cooldown for cancelling market listings.
Remove the need for item holds
Using a Mobile Authenticator ensures that you and only you can trade or sell your items quickly and securely, so holds are no longer necessary. Increase your account security by getting the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator for iOS and Android devices.
Read the Steam blog post about account security for a detailed explanation on why we implemented holds.

I hate it. I traded my friend some tf2 items and its annoying about the 3 day wait

I don't see why they dont stick with the simple email verification if you CHOOSE to have it enabled.

Then get the mobile authenticator up and running.

I do wish they gave people a sort of incentive to use the mobile authenticator besides slowing down trades and purchases to nothing, such as if you have your entire account secure you can buy items and then trade them without the 1 week thing, with the 1 week thing only for people who don't have secure accounts.

i have an iPad and the steam app but you need a phone number and the tablet dosen't. Or it does but I tried finding a cellular number but I couldn't find it and I looked everywhere in settings.

loving sucks for windows phone lol

It's bad enough it takes me like 9 loving days to trade something.

DON'T GET MOBILE GUARD!

First of all steam tells you that if you lose your mobile phone and you don't have the special pin they give you in case you lose your phone then you will no longer be able to access your account.

Considering how it's incredibly easy to lose a phone your entire account will be gone forever if that's the case.
