Author Topic: Blender -> Torque  (Read 2734 times)

I need to find a way to export blender to torque. However, the only plugin I can find has a broken download link. Please help.

Just use Port's DTS exporter for Blender. If you're not sure how to download it, click the link in the topic and then find the button that says "Download ZIP"

im going to say this again

you should not rely on ports exporter, it is not finished and still has problems

in fact, I ran into problems the other day when I was helping conan (you can even ask him) with a model, the exporter didn't even bother exporting any geometry

get this instead
(first 2 links that say "Download Blender 2.49b with preinstalled Python and DTS Exporter")
BUT FIRST
remember that this is an extremely older version of blender, a lot of features are different and your model will break unless you follow these instructions

-save your model as a separate file (Save As)
-when it asks for file name and location, at the BOTTOM LEFT check "legacy mesh format"
-you're done for this part

open old blender
-open your model
-if you see vertices and edges but no faces you forgot to save as a legacy mesh format (go back to new blender and restart)
-file>export>Torque Shape .dts (NOT quick export)
-go to the last tab (forget the name of it im on mobile)
-click "triangle strips"
-export

i could have missed a step but I would read over that tutorial (yeah I know the pictures are gone)

this works 100% with no problems. if something screws up you probably did something wrong

and again im on mobile so idk if I missed anything

why the hell would you want to use old blender when the new exporter works fine most of the time

why the hell would you want to use old blender when the new exporter works fine most of the time
because why go through a process that 1. doesn't have all the exporting features 2. some features that it has don't work correctly 3. give errors (I know this is fixed now) 4. flat out doesn't work sometimes (as I mentioned)

the 2.49 exporter is not at all hard to to and takes not even a minute to open it up and export your model. it comes with a great little GUI window that shows all of your materials and animation sequences. you can also enable/disable what shapes/bones you want to export.

also I don't mean to bash on port at all. his exporter is doing great and I'm extremely excited about the importer for dts and dsq as well. but if you want things done right it's best to do it the old fashioned way.

I agree with trogtor. It's better to use the old obsolete way than the new buggy unreliable way

"most of the time" for me is never: it keeps throwing errors regarding some text block which i cant for the life of me find where, nor how to edit. but if i take the exact same file, export it in old blender, it works exactly how i wanted it to.

delete autoroot in the text editor

Well, I was able to adapt to Port's exporter and now I don't come across any problems.

Thanks. Gonna go try it out.

Oh here's the exporting tutorial

http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=157886.0
again the images are broken, i'm thinking about making a new one

how would i install the exporter without it being preinstalled (having a mac can be annoying at times.)

i dont think there's a mac version, you're probably better off with ports dts exporter then

That tutorial is for mac too. If I were you, I'd use Port's exporter because the old blender version is buggy as balls for mac.
Edit: Or trogtor didn't link to the tutorial about setting up the exporter, yeah.

I was able to adapt to Port's exporter and now I don't come across any problems.

Calling bs on that :cookieMonster:
