What is the meaning of life, why are we here?


God's Plan:

People say we live and die all for a higher purpose in life because it's god's plan. We will live in heaven.


Reality:

What if in reality the only reason we are alive is to reproduce. For example the mayfly insect has a life span of 24 hours, it's entire life is based on reproducing.

We as a species (or any species) has to fight to survive and the survivors reproduce. Years and years and years of reproducing a species will at some point in life evolve. We as  humans didn't become the top of the food chain for nothing. We evolved up to the top.

Say there is no afterlife, everyone who is currently dead is dead and their mind will cease to exist. Their sacrifice was to ensure the human race would live on as long as they reproduced.

Now we as humans can keep reproducing for years to come until we either evolve naturally or evolve through technology. So what this means is that we are only put on this earth to reproduce until one day we reach a point in life that the new evolved generation of humans have the physical capacity to live forever.

Back in the 1800s the life expectancy was less than 30. Now in 2016 the life expectancy is 80+.

On a more serious note though, I like to think we're here to learn all there is to know about the universe. All of us will die long before we modern science actually figures out why reality is even a thing but whatever

Our knowledge of everything is now being recorded, unlike the ages before technology.

So we exist to reproduce and record our research for the next generation who will be able to use our research to expand upon it.

As we speak there are researchers looking to prolong life up to 500 years but let's be honest. It's probably too late for about 90% of the population that wasn't born into it. I doubt this break through will even happen in our lifetime.

This means we are all pawns for the new evolved generation.

People think that we are now on top of the food chain and are now the most intelligent species on earth we no longer need to evolve. We've done all there is. That is not the case.

Keep in mind with statistics like these are the average life expectancy, and commonplace solutions these days protect us from the previously enormous infant mortality rate and early childhood deaths, which tip the scale. Saying someone in the 1800's lived to be 20 they would most likely continue living until their 60s+
