in South Korea all men are required to serve for a few years when they turn [18]. a lot of them move to japan / somewhere else so they can escape it.
he's an american citizen but was enlisted into south korea. he started out in the same fashion as OP. but who knows tho

are you saying he was deployed there and stationed in SK? he started out as guard?
tbh being deployed doesn't scare me, idk why

he was eventually got deployed there, started out in the US. got a nice cheap house near camp with his fiance until the deployment

What does your brother and family think?

if you do military stuff you're gonna have a bad time die

What does your brother and family think?
they support it, my brother seems to be happy with me about it

a little late but what MOS are you thinking?

a little late but what MOS are you thinking?
combat engineer. maybe cav scout.

before i start talking please take everything i say with a grain of salt because i have no idea of how your states national guard works and may differ from what ive been told by a recruiter

if you did the split training option (basic between your junior and senior year) you would still be doing stuff on the weekends during the school year, you just wouldnt do mos specific training.
but you might not be able to do that because both 12bang bang and 19d are osut meaning that you dont have ait, you just have a longer basic training where you get taught everything at once
most states also offer rsp (recruitment sustainment program) so you would still get to do that 1 weekend a month thing leading up to your ship date, regardless of what path you choose to do

i probably didnt answer all your questions but im awful at this kind of thing

I've been considering active duty in the Army, and some people have recommended Marines to me (lol no thanks). I have yet to talk to a recruiter but I really don't have any other prospects in life so I feel kind of trapped in either homelessness or military service.

Also wait.

If you got the brains for it, US Navy Nuclear Engineers can get a 6 figure salary, and it's still military...

I enlisted back in November and I'm shipping to basic in August. I gave it a lot of thought and if you really want to, I think you should go for it.

I imagine these people have degrees in engineering beforehand.

yeah, i was kinda just going based off of what my brother did. he was shipped out to missouri (fort leonard wood) and completed basic/AIT in the same place. red/white/blue phase was basic, black/gold phase AIT. i'll have to talk to a recruiter
