I have a feeling I am about to regret those words. Only sad part is I don't know what guilty gear is nor do I think it's free. because I've heard that name before.

Lethal League. I'm not sure if this could count as a fighting game, since you don't directly hit each other. It still controls like a fighting game and you still have to (indirectly) kill your opponent by hitting something else (a ball).

I played that game it's amazing. It sorta classifies but isn't free, I even considered playing flash games

the touhou fighting games are fun if you can grab a copy of 'em -- even have built-in netplay support
heard the latest one was also pretty nice too
