Author Topic: How crazy am I for wanting to travel the world?  (Read 1296 times)

I was thinking about how amazing it would be to just get up and walk away from everything and buy a ticket and not look back. To travel around the world and explore and observe hundreds of different cultures and meet people from all over the world. I've considered it before but haven't really looked into it or talked about it at all because I feel like people would think I'm crazy if I were to sell everything I own and take my money from the bank, buy a camera and a backpack, and just get up and leave. I think people will think Im crazy because they'd want to know why I would want to give up such a comfortable life and give up my relationships to travel.

Although it sounds super cliche, have you every thought that there was something more out there? I know there way more I want to experience and learn.

Maybe I'm crazy but its something that I've been thinking, even dreaming about lately.

i like the idea too

Of course it's a nice idea
It's just not always feasible thing to do

I wouldn't mind travelling, but I certainly wouldn't sell all my possessions and spend all my money doing it.

Traveling the world will be difficult (i speak from several years of experience) but its not impossible. Though i think it's always a good idea to have someone travel with you.

I found this guy who basically described everything Im feeling and what exactly I would like to do. He has a lot of great tips too (like free places to stay)

I think thats what people have a hard time understanding but I guess when they dont mean much to you, you dont lose a lot

this sounds like something a movie narrator who is the main character would say just before starting their adventure or something.
sorry, off topic

OT:  no you aren't crazy and it's a good idea

Thus why he said "super cliche".

I did most of my traveling on my bicycle and i'll tell you what, there isn't anything like bicycling around the world. Its absolutely liberating!

I'd like to go with a flexible plan ya know? Don't plan anything specific
Matt, the guy who has the website, has some great tips and ideas on how to earn income while traveling, if insurance is important, how to balance your budget, how to pack light, and a bunch of other really useful tips.

I've traveled the country for my whole life, I'd like to get a job that lets me travel the world as well.

I thought about going to England with some friends during my senior year of high school, but didn't feel like organizing anything to raise funds for it. I still think visiting Europe sounds like a lot of fun though. I'd definitely want to go to the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, and to a lesser extent, Italy. On a more domestic level, I'd love to go to Alaska and California. I've also never been to the northeast USA.

you need to become a serial killer who snaps necks
share the snappening with the world

It's not the lack of possessions that puts me off, and my attachment to them, but rather, a lack of things to fall back on.

Especially if I were to take all my money out of the bank and then travel abroad. Presumably you're taking that money with you. What if you get robbed? What if you lose it?

If your ability to journey around is hindered earlier, because of injury or lack of funds, then what do you have to come back to?

For starters, use Southwest Airlines

I understand now.

As for being robbed, its obviously a possibility but I might keep some money in the bank but I would also keep, like the guy said, money in different stashes in different places. He even said hidden pockets or sewing it behind a patch on a coat.

Obviously I can't tell you exactly how I'd feel if I was put in that situation but it would sure be an interesting experience

Haha I'm not sure about that
