why do you care who gets offended by what.
It's not that people are getting caught up about other people being offended, it's that to a normal person being told off for some minute thing (like making insinuations about women going to proms hint hint) is really annoying.
When you're around people who are offended by a lot of topics such as loveuality, personal identity, social issues or gender identity, it's like walking barefoot in a field of eggshells. Any step can be painful and you have to try extra carefully not to tread in the wrong direction lest ye be branded an starfish/misogynist/whatever the forget. The worst part about this is the perpetually offended aren't known for their self-awareness, so often times it's a losing battle and there are no winning moves, only compromises on your end.
When a normal Joe or Jane leaves their house to take part in average social interaction, not offending anyone should not be the first thing on their mind.
