Author Topic: Do you think people being offended over everything will end? [Serious]  (Read 1993 times)

Here's the deal.

There are a selective minority of people who have taken to this whole 'sjw' thing to a new extreme. They're the type of person who is insecure and possibly histrionic about themselves and they latch on to the movement and start demanding validation for something that isn't actually a real issue. This can be noticed by the likes of 'otherkin.' No one is legitimately saying that believing you were born an animal is suddenly an actual issue and is as important as the real ones that exist in real life. Sure these people deserve basic human respect (which is something the internet very severely lacks), but they are the kinds of folks who give the term 'sjw' any weight.

But right now the 'edgy and thought provoking' argument to make on the internet is that you're "anti-sjw" or "anti-feminist" or whatever the flavor of the week is. This is the kind of person who makes it their mission to degrade and demean other people in an attempt to appear cool to their internet circle-jerk. The most commonly referred to is the phrase "triggered." What once represented someone politely asking that someone tag their internet content (because, shocker, you don't have to censor yourself on the internet and still be a decent human being) because they suffer from a legitimate stress induced panic disorder. And no, there's no such thing as a 'stupid' trigger, it doesn't matter what it is that sets you off, because everyone has different life experiences and forms memories separately from others.

Or here's one I saw pop up on this forum a lot (to the testament of it being perpetrated by 12 to 14 year old boys, I was not surprised), which was use the phrase "autism" and "autist" to describe just about anyone who didn't have the same world-view as you. In this instance we very clearly see a sensitive phrase being used as a joke and and insult. The issue is that it really does hurt those who actually have autism, as you're making someone who would normally want to feel normal suddenly feel like the inferior outcast. I'm sure there are plenty of users on this forum who have low-level to high-level autism and I'm sure for some of them seeing a clan like "Autism TM" wasn't exactly a pleasant experience.  If you don't understand what I'm saying, think of it like the "left-handed being the devil" nonsense that used to exist, we all know clearly that they can't help that their dominant hand happened to be their left one, but society continued to outcast them for it (albeit at a brief and specific point in history). It makes no sense to just insult them for something they can't control. Well, the autism thing is like that but on a grander scale.

I guess in a tl;dr kind of way, what I'm trying to say is, the people who are advocating the most for trying to be less offensive are the people who are literally just asking that we stop being tribal, ableist, loveist, bigoted starfishs who make fun of people for things they literally cannot control. There's a lot more social commentary that we could discuss that can paint a more concise picture of what happened, but I don't have time on this forum to explain it nor would anyone probably listen. I'm gonna get hate just for this post, not about to create more.

I've seen otherkin claim they are a dragon.

Dragons don't exist.

The entire point of otherkin is the belief you are a real animal in a human body.

then just made a post

people get offended about different things

you won't always be offended by the same things as other people. there are a lot of people that really don't like swearing. there are also people that really don't like rape jokes. there's no "right" way to look at this, it's just the way people are

I am mealwormkin and have a mealwormsona.
