Dark humor also kinda requires a really good set up beforehand. Otherwise, your comment will seem more for the sake of shock and anger rather than a laugh. I think Louis CK tends to execute a set up well in that he seems to gauge how far he can go with an audience before making a statement, albeit often he just goes guns blazing.
